Picking flours is a completely home based bakery that creates gluten-free sourdough and other baked goods using organic ingredients and whole grain flours whenever possible. We have many allergen-friendly and plant-based options. We want to create nourishing and delicious baked goods and to introduce you to all kinds of different flours and their flavors. The Baker
Hi, I’m Shannon…So my whole life I’ve loved baking. Even as a child I was always in the kitchen trying new recipes and making extravagant desserts for parties and family gatherings. I was in awe of my grandmas, Betty and Shirley, being able to make hundreds of cookies and other goodies for their families over the holidays.
Naturally, I grew up and became an engineer. However, a few years into my career I experienced some health issues which helped me rediscover my love for the kitchen. Sadly, I learned that my body felt better not consuming gluten anymore, so I began to experiment with recreating my favorite gluten-ful foods with nourishing alternate ingredients. I attended a culinary school program focusing specifically on healthful cooking and began working in a kitchen full time as a line cook. I loved it!
A year later though I found that baking was still calling me. I began working at a bakery, and at home I became fascinated with using age old sourdough techniques with gluten-free grains. After all, wheat, barley, and rye (the gluten-containing grains) are only a small fraction of all the kinds of grains available to us. Experimenting with other grains opens up a whole new world of flavor. So here we are, picking flours. I want to share with you all of my creations which can be enjoyed by gluten-eaters and non gluten-eaters alike!
